During COVID lockdown, Sydney-based mum and dad design team, Olivia and Patrick Rudomino, drew on inspiration – and practical play ideas – from their three busy children to launch My NooK. It’s space-smart, stylish furniture that offers child-size fun with versatile comfort and durability.

Together, Patrick and Olivia manage every component of this family-run Australian business and they love involving their three kids – Charlie (15), Carmen (9) and Hugo (7) – in the journey with them.
Creating a beautiful brand was the beginning, but committing to Australian-made design and manufacturing within every facet of the My NooK production and distribution process – including packaging, printing, stickers, artwork, photography and marketing. It’s about building a home-grown business success story that is both sustainable and supportive.
What makes NooK unique?
The NooK modular play sofa is the only play sofa in the world with Zip-Together-Zip-Apart functionality. This gives added stability for some builds, helps create jumping mats and slides and allows for a more secure sleep or play surface. Our Connector Zips are protected by fabric flaps to ensure that they don’t scratch little fingers or faces when connected or loose. Only My NooK Australian made play sofas spread out to create a comfy sleep surface that’s even larger than a double bed – the ideal way to transition from adventurous, day-dreamy play, to cosy, cuddly movie nights, or an excellent sleepover solution.
NooK features
For added strength, comfort, and support, we use four unique foam grades across the NooK and Extra accessories range; this ensures the premium quality pleasure of a luxury item in a kid-friendly product, adding that stylish fun to your home. My NooK modular sofas are soft, safe, and ecologically-sound, with a commitment to using 100 per cent Australian made foam that is manufactured to the strictest environmental standards and sourced from a zero-waste factory.
Our foams contain NO CFCs, NO Formaldehyde and NO Methylene Chloride. They are all GECA certified for adhering to strict environmental and ethical standards. The unique mix of foam grades throughout the range ensures that we have the ultimate mix of strong support, soft comfort, buildability, and a bit of bounce! We knew we were creating a toy, a sofa, and a bed all-in-one, so we spent a long time developing the perfect mix of foams to tick all the boxes. Our foams are also treated with Purify, a unique and safe microbial protection which keeps foam fresh, clean and 99.9 per cent free of bacteria which cause odour and degrade foam integrity.
Our choice of hard-wearing (but luxuriously soft!) commercial grade fabrics, ensures that our NooKs wear beautifully. Our fabrics are rated to a minimum of 60,000 rubs in the Martindale Test which means they’re made for commercial use in schools, offices and hotels and will keep looking their best for years to come. They’re also easy-to-clean (using spot cleaning for small spills or a cold-water machine wash for big ones because: kids), which is great news for all the family!
Currently, the NooK colour range includes 30 beautiful fabric choices, including 14 original polyesters, eight velvets and eight hard-wearing outdoor fabrics, for the freedom to coordinate a truly individual interior or exterior look. Our outdoor range is water resistant, machine washable, UV stable, bleach cleanable and pet-friendly too.
Our commercial grade fabrics are sourced by leading Australian Fabric Houses before being quality checked, cut and sewn into our beautiful covers right here in Sydney, Australia. All NooK play sofa covers are double-stitched and top stitched for extra durability. With almost 10,000 stitches, 10 metres of commercial-grade fabric and 12 metres of top-quality zips in every NooK ensuring the long-lasting quality of each and every NooK – it’s practical, play-focused design that’s made to last.
Each NooK comes in 10 individual pieces, purpose designed to ignite the imagination and foster free play for kids of any age (even the grown-up ones!). The entire NooK weighs under 14kg and even the littlest ones can comfortably carry our base cushions – most importantly they can help tidy it up at the end of the day!
